Located in Market Mall, Paper Root Studios is an independent store selling souvenirs and other unique knick-knacks. Calgary Lighting Products has gradually changed the store’s current lighting – approximately 200 track lighting lamps.
Previously, Paper Root Studios was using 75 watt par 30s; halogens with a lifespan of 2000-5000 hours. Calgary Lighting Products is in the process of replacing these with 10 watt par 30s LED lights, which will save 65 watts/lamp.
Not only is it important to save energy, but the pure cost of the lamps is saving Paper Root Studios money with the switch from halogen to LED. One light socket with a halogen bulb costs $6. Over five years, this one light socket will cost $60 in halogen bulb replacements. However, over five years, one LED bulb will cost $30 in replacements because they have a longer lifespan. Not only do you save on bulb buying and labour costs, you also have less wear-and-tear on the fixture as well!
Smaller stores, like Paper Root Studios, have the opportunity to change lighting in stages. With LED lighting, stores can change one case of lights at a time as they burn out. This makes it very affordable for everyone!
