Each month we highlight an awesome light installation in and around Calgary.
In 2013 downtown Calgary became home to “Wonderland”, a 12-meter high sculpture created by Barcelona-based designed Jaume Plensa. The piece of public art is located outside of the Bow building.
Wonderland is a giant female head made entirely of wire, with two entrances allowing people to walk around inside the piece. At night, the sculpture comes alive as it’s illuminated by a series of lights strategically placed beneath it.
The piece is a great example of how lighting is used in public art throughout the city, as people come from all over to photograph the sculpture at night.
