Another term to keep in mind when shopping for LEF lights is Beam Angle.
In the lighting industry, the Beam Angle is also known as the Beam Spread. It is the angle of the light emitted from the center part of the lamp’s beam. The tighter the angle, the further the light will travel. The luminosity at this point is 50% of the maximum intensity.
- 15° Beam Angle (“Spot”): Good for very high ceilings (15ft or higher) or where a finely focused light is required on a subject
- 20-25° Beam Angle (“Narrow Flood”): Higher ceilings (10ft or higher) or where a larger focused light than a 15°/spot is required on a subject
- 40° (“Flood”): Normal ceilings (8-9ft) or where a traditional light spread/angle is required
- 110° (“BR Flood”): Even distribution of light in focused areas
