Each month we highlight an awesome light installation in and around Calgary.
You might be familiar with this month’s feature. It’s a glowing tower of cars that is tough to miss if you’re driving down Deerfoot Trail after dark: The Toyota Tower at South Pointe Toyota Scion.
The owners of South Pointe Toyota Scion wanted to do something completely different with their new location. So, we created the ‘Toyota Tower’ car display. When they asked Calgary Lighting Products to do the lighting installation for this project, we knew it had to be just as unique as the tower itself. The result: 60 RGB (red, green, blue) 50 watt floodlights that generate 521 different lighting, color, and scene combinations. There are up to 12 different light setting which can be controlled by a DMX controller or an iPhone.
You can only see light when it has something to reflect against. And because the tower is made of glass the light will go through it. To remedy this challenge, we designed the lights so that all are facing the cars inside. To ensure that the light reflects the proper colors, the tower only ever holds white cars.
After the successful completion of this project, we also installed similar lighting at Lexus South Pointe in Edmonton. We also did a light installation for Country Hills Toyota in Calgary.
If you drive by South Pointe Toyota Scion this month you’ll notice it shining red and green to reflect the spirit of the season!
