Awesome Light Installation: The Langevin Bridge

Each month, we highlig an awesome light installation in and around Calgary.

The Langevin Bridge, opened in 1910, is another example of an awesome light installation located in Calgary’s East Village.

In 2009 the bridge was updated with thousands of LED lights in an attempt to revitalize the structure. The 156 RGB LED lights, each composed of 36 one-watt lamps, are oriented to highlight every beam and truss of this gateway over the river.

Not only do the lights change with the seasons and in honour of holidays and events – the Calgary community can get involved in the colour selection, too. The Light Up Langevin Program invites people to submit an application choosing the colours they’d like to see in celebration of a charity, milestone, project, or festival. It’s free of charge, and no applications are ever turned down.
