Each month, we highlight an awesome light installation in and around Calgary. This month, we’d like to share with you some details about the work we did for the Deerfoot Inn & Casino in South East Calgary.
This project started with the hotel’s common space – the hallways outside of each room. Each of the 300 lamps outside of every door contained halogen bulbs, which we changed to LED.
The next phase of the project took place within the last year, when Calgary Lighting went in and changed every bulb in each of the hotel’s 188 rooms, totaling 2,268 lamps. The bulbs, originally 60 watts, were previously swapped out for 15 watt spirals. However, guests raised concerns that these bulbs took several minutes to produce full lighting, as the bulbs needed time to warm up. The solution: Calgary Lighting replaced the 15 watt spirals with 10 watt LED bulbs.
One of the many benefits of LED is that these bulbs come on immediately. The color temperature of the bulbs being 3,000 kelvin now emit the right color and brightness, creating a warm, comfortable feel in each room.
Lastly, the bulb switch will result in massive savings for the hotel in the long-term. Over five years, the hallway light replacements will save $78,577.20 and the room lamps will save $134,520.75!
Stayed tuned for our next project with Deerfoot Inn & Casino, as plans are in the works to change the parking lot lighting from 175 watt bulbs to LED.
